Chorus Elective
Chorus is an elective class offered in grades 6, 7, and 8. It meets
three periods per cycle and is a full year course. In grade 8, chorus
is divided
into two groups, Song Sisters for girls and Brooks
Brothers for boys.
This division enables work with the changing voice and enhances part-singing. Skills studied over three years in chorus include: reading music, tone
production, breath support, phrasing, blend, and rhythmic accuracy. The repertoire for the Middle School Chorus is drawn from folk, "classical"
and contemporary literature from various stylistic periods and genres.
Choral
groups perform in regularly scheduled school concerts and may also be
involved in off campus programs.
Voice lessons are not offered at this age level.
